This is the fundamental choice golfers face.

Laser Rangefinders: These devices use a laser beam to pinpoint a specific target (like the flagstick, a bunker lip, or a tree). You look through a viewfinder, aim the crosshair, and press a button to get a highly accurate distance to that exact object. Their accuracy is superior (often within +/- 1 yard) and they don't require annual fees or phone apps. The downside is that they require a clear line of sight and a steady hand.

GPS Rangefinders: These devices (often watches or handheld units) use satellite data to provide distances to pre-mapped points on the course: front, middle, and back of the green, as well as hazards. They give you a great overview of the hole but are less precise for exact pin locations. They often require a subscription or app and need to be charged.
